Football Betting Malaysia: Popular Bet Types
Asian handicap. One team receives a goal handicap, which removes the draw and gives closer odds on both sides.
Over/under. Bet on whether the total goals or points finish above or below the sportsbook’s line.
1X2. The classic bet on a home win, a draw or an away win.
Correct score, odd/even and outrights. Extra markets for when you have a strong view on a match, or want to back a team to win the league.
Mix parlay. Combine several selections on one ticket. Every leg must win, but the odds multiply together for a bigger potential return.
Asian Handicap Explained
Asian handicap is the market most Malaysian football fans start with. A -0.5 handicap means your team must win; a +0.5 handicap means your team wins the bet if it wins or draws. With a whole-number line such as -1, a one-goal win returns your stake. Quarter lines split your stake: -0.25 puts half on 0 and half on -0.5, so a draw returns half your stake. Once you understand these lines, comparing SBOBET and MAXBET prices becomes much easier.
Understanding the Odds
Decimal odds show your total return: RM10 at 1.90 returns RM19 including your stake. Malay odds are popular locally: a positive price such as 0.90 wins RM9 per RM10 staked, while a negative price such as -0.80 risks RM8 to win RM10. Hong Kong odds show only the profit, so 0.90 means RM9 profit on RM10. You can switch formats in the sportsbook settings, and the bet slip always shows your potential return before you confirm.
Live (In-Play) Betting
Odds keep moving after kick-off, and in-play betting lets you react to what you see: a red card, an early goal or a team pushing for an equaliser. SBOBET and MAXBET both offer extensive in-play markets on football and basketball, with odds updating every few seconds.
F1 and Big Event Betting
SBOBET and MAXBET cover Formula 1 alongside football, so you can bet on race winners, podium finishes and head-to-head matchups when races are on. M2 recently ran The Sepang Experience, an F1 betting campaign that ended on 4 October 2026. Look out for similar campaigns around major races and football tournaments on our promotions page.
